Honda has been committed to developing cars that feature components aimed at reducing pedestrian injuries for years as a part of their "Safety for Everyone Approach," and just recently, they received a great honor for their efforts. The Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety named Honda a "Highway Safety Hero," along with select state officials, former/current members of Congress and citizen activists. Honda was the only company to be bestowed with the accolade and their decade-long initiatives in automotive safety are what led to the recognition.

Various features such as breakaway windshield wiper pivots and collapsible hood hinges are just a couple of ways Honda is making efforts to reduce pedestrian injuries. These safety components are implemented in the design of each car to help diminish head trauma injuries, which make up 60-percent of pedestrian deaths in collision accidents. In addition to features like these, Honda has also taken strides to make rearview cameras standard on many of their cars, trucks and SUVs, and by 2015 their entire lineup will come standard with one. The inclusion of these cameras will help increase visibility, leading to a reduction in pedestrian accidents; other technologies such as Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning will also be available to provide extra assistance and protection.

Honda has plans to continue working on new safety features that will benefit in-car occupants and pedestrians in the future. They also hope to eventually eliminate collisions completely, creating safe roads for everyone. To view their lineup of safe cars, trucks and SUVs, visit Bell Honda and take one for a test-drive.
