Sonic the Hedgehog--a beloved figure that many of us in Phoenix grew up with as kids or young adults--is turning 25 this year. And to celebrate, Honda teamed up with SEGA to commemorate the occasion. Together, they chose the Honda Civic, one of the brand's most popular cars in America, to create a totally custom project.

Based on the 2016 Honda Civic Touring, a fun and exciting turbocharged sedan, this customized game-inspired car made a big splash at the 2016 Comic-Con in California.

James Jenkins, Public Relations Manager for the Honda Division, said of the project:

"What better way to showcase the incredibly sporty performance capability of the 10th generation Civic than by pairing it with gaming industry's ultimate athlete – Sonic the Hedgehog. As the fan favorite game and character celebrates his 25th anniversary on the scene, we hope that all Sonic fans – those who remember playing years ago and those who continue playing today – rejoice in his all-new ride, as much as we enjoyed creating it."

Features and design cues on the Comic-Con sedan include:

  • Custom wheels and tires inspired by the speedy hedgehog's red shoes
  • A custom exterior with vinyl Sonic the Hedgehog design and a unique paint scheme
  • Custom interior features like Sonic-themed front and rear seats and embroidered logos
  • Custom trunk design with premium audio and visual and two subwoofers

Now, this "Sonic Civic" won't be a model that's available for sale in places like Phoenix. But you can always find a host of a new Honda cars at Bell Honda, so if you're feeling speedy or retro, check out the new turbocharged Honda Civic for yourself.
