The Honda lineup will soon be welcoming an all-new sports car into the roster powered solely by electricity. The upcoming model, which was recently confirmed by Honda itself, will reignite the brand's sporting DNA and also lead to advancements in EV technology.

Honda's electric CR-Z racecar that took part in this year's Pikes Peak International Hillclimb is a glimpse in the direction the brand wants to go with the upcoming EV sports car. Just recently Honda gave journalists the chance to check out a tuned-down version of the racer and revealed information about the EV sports car project.

"We started this car back in 2012, not as a race car but as an all-electric sports car for public sales," said a senior project source. "We are making every possible effort to make it to the market. More specifically, with the success at Pikes Peak we have verified that the testing period is completed. Now we have to think about the commercialization of it."

Honda's head honcho, Takahiro Hachigo, explained the project further, stating it was originally created by engineers in the company's research and development department who were trying to think of fun cars they could develop. He also admitted that there are challenges when it comes to creating a production version of the model, but he hopes his team will be able to overcome the obstacles.

If the stars align, Honda hopes to have the EV sports car churning out 350 horsepower and delivering a 250-mile driving range. To receive updates on Honda's progress with the model, subscribe to our blog today.
