The Honda CR-Z has been outfitted with a hybrid powertrain since it first premiered on the market in 2010, but due to the ever-changing demands of today's drivers, there's a chance the hybrid unit could be replaced with a turbocharged four-cylinder when the next-generation model debuts. Rumored to arrive in 2017/18, the all-new CR-Z could be a game changer for Honda if the engine swap speculations prove to be true.
According to an anonymous source, the next-gen Honda CR-Z could pack the same 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine found on the European Civic Type R when it arrives on the market. Expected to deliver 280 horsepower, the engine will be much stronger than the current hybrid powertrain. In addition to the new engine, the incoming CR-Z is also said to be based on the next-generation Civic's platform, which will make it larger in size. This switch could also lead to a name change, with the new model being dubbed the Civic CR-Z.
Currently, no official statement has been made by Honda about the CR-Z's future; however, this doesn't mean the rumors are untrue. If you want to check out the current hybrid CR-Z on the market, visit Bell Honda to view each 2015 model in stock.
