What Do Honda Maintenance Minder Codes Mean?

The Maintenance Minder System that you'll find in newer Honda vehicles tells you your oil life, when it's time for an oil change, and when your car needs to be serviced in other ways. It's a handy system, to be sure, but you need to know what the Maintenance Minder codes mean if you want to keep your Honda vehicle running.

First of all, let's talk about the messages about your oil life:

  • Oil Life 15% - This means that your oil is reaching the end of its lifespan. Service is due soon.
  • Oil Life 5% - Service is due now, so schedule an appointment as soon as you can.
  • Oil Life 0% - Your oil is at the end of its service life. Your vehicle is past due for service.

You will also see symbols for your main maintenance items:

A - This means your engine oil should be replaced.

B - This means your engine oil and filter should be replaced. Inspections of other systems and components should also be completed at this time.

Your Maintenance Minder System will also alert you of other tasks. These aren't as crucial as changing your oil, but they're still important. Keep an eye out for these numbers:

  1. Rotate your tires and make sure that they are in good condition.
  2. Replace the air cleaner element, inspect the drive belt, and replace the dust and pollen filter.
  3. Replace your transmission fluid.
  4. Replace your spark plugs and inspect your water pump.
  5. Replace your engine coolant.
  6. Replace your rear differential fluid

If you've noticed any of these Maintenance Minder codes or the yellow wrench icon has lit up on your dashboard, don't hesitate to contact Bell Honda at your earliest convenience. Waiting too long with any of these issues will only result in a higher repair bill.
