Honda Executive Bob Nelson Named Automotive News All-Star for Leadership in Honda Sustainability Efforts

Honda's goal of zero environmental impact by 2050 is one step closer to becoming a reality, and Honda executive Bob Nelson played a big part in their leap forward. As the executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., he's also the chair of the Honda North American environmental committee. He was recently recognized as the 2024 Automotive News All-Star in the Sustainability category.

Bob Nelson is an All-Star for Sustainability

On December 9, 2024, Bob Nelson was honored at the Automotive News All-Star awards event. Under Nelson's leadership, Honda has a very complex goal: enacting a Triple Action to Zero approach to reach zero environmental impact by 2050. Their commitment to carbon neutrality, resource circulation, and clean energy are all part of the triple action plan.

Bob Nelson spoke about his upcoming award by saying, "It is an honor for me to lead this companywide effort that involves an incredible team of creative and passionate Honda associates who are working to realize our goal of zero environmental impact." Nelson also addressed the challenges that face them in the years ahead. At the end of the day, though, he believes that their hard work will pay off and Honda will reach its goal by or before 2050.

Bob Nelson started his career at Honda at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio. He's also worked in manufacturing roles at Honda and was a critical part of the team that created the first sustainability award for Honda suppliers. That's an impressive legacy to have behind him, but it's what's ahead that matters most to Nelson. His current role with Honda includes a hand in just about everything, including human resources and business operations. Behind everything he does, though, is the pressing goal to help Honda reach its environmental goals both this year and far into the future.

Nelson remains the chair of the Honda North American environmental committee and helps plan strategies among 13 groups in North America. The operation is challenging, complex, and demanding, but Nelson is one of the reasons it continues to be such a success.
